Present Tense

Present Tense is an ambitious account of thirty-five years of contemporary art in Australia, revolving around Anna Schwartz and her gallery. A book that defies the tidy genres of ‘biography’, ‘art book’ and ‘monograph’, Present Tense demanded a design as unique as its content. The format that emerged was a linen-bound square-back book with a portrait of Schwartz by one of her artists, Jenny Watson, on the spine.

A variety of images spanning artworks, archival photographs and personal snaps peppered throughout the pages sets the scene, and the tempo, for this large volume.
